Description

At its January 2008 meeting, the WHSRN Hemispheric Council voted unanimously to approve Ensenada de Pabellones in Sinaloa, Mexico, as a WHSRN Site of International Importance. This 45,000-hectare site contains a variety of coastal habitats that host more than 300,000 wintering shorebirds representing species such as Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri), Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa), and American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana). It also is part of the “Gulf of California Islands” Flora and Fauna Protection Area, an Important Bird Conservation Area (AICA No. 146), and a candidate Wetland of International Importance under Ramsar.
