About Us
Samborombón Bay is located in the Province of Buenos Aires and includes an area of 250,000 hectares. The site was designated a WHSRN Site of International Importance by virtue of hosting more than 10% of a the world’s population of Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Tryngites subruficollis) as well as over 100,000 shorebird per year.
The nominated area includes the newly created "Samborombón Bay Wildlife Refuge," which is administered by the Directorate of Natural Protected Areas of the Province of Buenos Aires. There are 118 private landowners within this refuge.
Samborombón Bay was recognized as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance on January 24, 1997. It is also an Important Area for the Conservation of Birds (IBA) per Aves Argentinas / BirdLife International.
