Revitalizing the Shorebird Sister Schools Program

The SSSP Educator's Guide/ Courtesy of USFWS

The Shorebird Sister Schools Program (SSSP) is a science-based, environmental education program that began in 1994 as part of Alaska’s Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival. The program engages and connects students along shorebird migratory flyways in learning about the birds they share. Produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), the program’s curriculum meets national teaching standards and includes an Educator's Guide and Student Activity Workbook that are available from the Service for free. The Service has recently hired a new SSSP national coordinator, Jim Siegel, to revitalize the program and its website. Service staff throughout the country are also serving as SSSP regional coordinators. Our appreciation to Jim, the regional coordinators, and the Service for rejuvenating this unique and important program! For more information, please visit the new SSSP Website
