Species Conservation Plans
Map of All Species Plans' Important Sites (July 27, 2012 .kmz)
Each WHSRN Species Conservation Plan, below, lists known sites important to the survival of the species. For most, these are sites that support at least 1% of its biogeographic population - the standard also used by BirdLife International for identifying Important Bird Areas. For species that tend not to aggregate, a more appropriate but comparable percentage was applied.
The "Map of All Species Plans' Important Sites" brings these sites into a GoogleEarth format. Each species is denoted with a unique placemark that can be selected from the Google Earth menu. Pop-up windows associated with each site convey information by species, imported from the conservation plans: site name and species, counts, season, date, and primary source information when available (availability varies widely from species plan to species plan). Updates to the Map will be announced on this webpage.
